Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Boardmember Ref Rodriguez, whose district includes many of the communities contained within California’s 34th Congressional District (CA 34), announced his endorsement of Yolie Flores’ campaign for Congress today.
In announcing his support, Rodriguez stated:
“Yolie Flores is a proven reformer who is not afraid to take on the status quo. In Congress, we can count on her to fight against the Republican attacks on our public education system and advance policies that uplift and empower our most vulnerable. Yolie has dedicated over 30 years of her life to helping LA’s families and children succeed. I can’t think of a better choice to represent the 34th Congressional District.”
Ref Rodriguez is an educator and school co-founder who represents 28% of CA 34 on the LAUSD Board of Education.
Yolie is an advocate for children and families, education policy leader, former School Board Member, social worker, and longtime resident of CA 34.
Yolie currently serves as Chief Program Officer for the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading; serves on the Boards of Coro Southern California, the Center for the Study of Social Policy, and The Education Trust; and is a member of the Annie E. Casey Children and Families Fellows’ Network. Yolie was elected to the LAUSD Board of Education in 2007 and served 3 years as Vice President of the Board. During her tenure, she ushered groundbreaking reform policies to empower parents, improve student performance, and expand early childhood and bilingual education. Prior to LAUSD, Yolie served for 8 years as the CEO of the Los Angeles County Children’s Planning Council. Yolie earned her master’s in Social Welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has twice been named Social Worker of the Year in her region.
