In response to recent deportation raids by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Yolie Flores released the following statement:
|“Donald Trump’s actions on deportations are beyond sinister. Not only are they bad for the economy and a waste of resources, but worse, they will tear families apart. Thousands of children are at risk of losing their mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers.
The toll that Trump’s Executive Order is having on families is real. Children are afraid to go to school, mother’s are hiding in church basements, and fathers are being apprehended in front of their kids causing trauma that we know impacts learning and health conditions.
The most recent violation came when 22 year-old DREAM-er Daniela Vargas was arrested and is being deported without a trial and without due process. Vargas was arrested after making a public statement about her situation. Her arrest sends a message to the community that those who speak out will be targeted.
I will not be silent. In Washington I will fight to protect immigrant families and keep them together. Until these raids stop, I will make my Congressional office a center for immigrants’ rights, including attorneys and immigrant advocates who can work to protect my constituents who are targeted by ICE. In the long term, I will fight for comprehensive immigration reform that provides a path to citizenship and keeps our families together.
My passion and thirty-year career are focused on working for families and children. My goal is to continue that work in Congress, but I need your help. Use your vote as your voice on April 4th.“
